Ottawa, July 23, 2003. The Canadian GeoProject Centre (CGPC) helped to organize the program for a delegation from Chile, which visited Ottawa on July 2-4, 2003. The visit was organized by the Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), assisted by the Canadian embassy in Santiago, Chile.
The delegation was representing the agency responsible for the Sistema Nacional de Información Territorial (SNIT), in the Ministerio de Bienes Nacionales of the Government of Chile. This program, a national spatial data infrastructure initiative, has been authorized by Presidential decree. Their objective was to learn more about Canada's experience in implementing spatial data infrastructures (SDI) through GeoConnections, a national partnership program led by NRCan that is building the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.
CGPC worked with NRCan to organize a series of industry presentations during the three-day visit, and hosted a dinner for the Chilean and Canadian participants in the delegation's program. Canadian firms making presentations included CubeWerx Inc., DM Solutions Group Inc., Geoplan Consultants Inc., Intelec Geomatics Inc., ICT Development Group, and PCI Geomatics.
At the conclusion of their visit, the delegation invited NRCan to
participate in an upcoming meeting in Santiago, Chile with the key SDI
stakeholders in their country.
