OTTAWA, December 15, 2003. The Canadian GeoProject Centre (CGPC) partnered with Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources Canada (ESS-NRCan) in organizing the industry participation in a business mission to India and Thailand in November 2003.
Led by Dr. Irwin Itzkovitch, Assistant Deputy Minister, Earth Sciences Sector, this mission was successful in furthering government-to-government relations with counterpart organizations in the Governments of India and Thailand, and supporting the private sector’s business development activities.
The Canadian government-industry delegation visited the cities of New Delhi, Agra and Hyderabad in India and met with several key agencies in the Government of India and State of Andhra Pradesh. The delegation attended the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) III Seminar, organized jointly by the Department of Science and Technology and Indian Space Research Organization. Dr. Itzkovitch was a keynote speaker and several industry representatives made technical presentations related to Canada’s experience in SDI implementation under the GeoConnections Program.
In Thailand, Canada also enjoyed a high profile at the National Surveying and Mapping Conference organized by the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency. The Canadian delegation exhibited at this conference, held in Bangkok, and members of the delegation made presentations in the technical program. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ESS-NRCan and GISTDA was signed at the Conference opening. CGPC and ESS-NRCan also conducted a Spatial Data Infrastructure Workshop, at GISTDA’s invitation, as a first undertaking under the MOU.
The Canadian GeoProject Centre is working with partner firms to pursue business opportunities in both these countries. During this mission agreement was reached with one client in India on project scope and content, and discussions initiated with agencies in India and Thailand for two additional projects.
